By Anonymous More and more savvy Human Resources professionals realize that using the Internet to collect feedback from employees can dramatically reduce the cost associated with administering employee surveys.
SurveyWriter.com is a new web service available to HR professionals and other corporate managers that gives them the online tools to measure employee attitudes and opinions, collect 360-degree feedback assessments, and administer personality tests.
According to Joel Friedman, CEO of SurveyWriter, “Since high-employee satisfaction rates significantly reduce employee turnover, many companies are turning to the web to administer employee satisfaction surveys. This is especially true for large companies with satellite offices. Said Friedman, “The cost and immediacy of online research make it real attractive to HR professionals.”
Here’s how it works:
* You log onto www.surveywriter.com through your personal Internet connection and your browser.
* You create your questionnaire using SurveyWriter's advanced HTML question editor. Extensive formatting capabilities provide you with complete control over the look and feel of your survey, and filter wizards comfortably guide you through the construction of advanced logic questions, which allow you to "talk" to your respondents by asking new questions based on their answers to previous ones.
* The survey is seamlessly linked to your own Web site. No one ever knows that you are not hosting the survey.
* SurveyWriter tabulates results automatically, and you can view them at any time in presentation-ready charts.
If you wish, you could also download the survey results onto a spreadsheet or similar application. No programming or network experience is necessary. All you need is a PC and a connection to the Internet to create and field full-featured web surveys. SurveyWriter provides the tools to connect with customers all over the world, instantly, and at the low cost of $1.25 per completed survey! No upfront costs, and training is free.
According to Friedman, "SurveyWriter.com enables real-time, bi-directional communication between Corporate Managers and employees by delivering media-rich content over the Web and collecting feedback from the viewer. The result is a powerful HR data collection tool.”

By Anonymous ESSEX JUNCTION, VT May 27, 2004 -- The popularity of online degrees continues to escalate. However some degree majors are clearly more in demand than others. GetEducated.com, LLC, a consumer-oriented, online degree clearinghouse, has uncovered the following trends among learners seeking graduate degrees online:
Top 10 Online Business Degree Majors:
1) Business Administration
2) Management
3) Leadership
4) Project Management
5) Information Systems Management
6) Finance
7) Technology Management
8) Entrepreneurship
9) Human Resources
10) International/Global Business
Most Popular Online Graduate Degree: The Master’s of Business Administration (MBA)
Not only is the MBA the most popular online degree, it holds this distinction by an impressive margin. The second most popular online graduate degree, the Master’s in Management, is only half as popular as the MBA. The third most popular online degree choice, Leadership, is only one-quarter as popular as the MBA.
“What we see in these trends is a mirror of the trends in the national business environment,” comments GetEducated.com’s CEO Vicky Phillips, who has been tracking online degrees since 1989.
“The Leadership degree, a type of degree virtually unheard of a decade ago, is experiencing a tremendous surge in popularity as corporations look toward the next generation of CEOs to excel in the softer side of business-building. Leadership degrees emphasize communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. These skills transfer across all business specialties, and have come to be as important in the business world today as finance skills were in 1980s when the MBA surged ahead in popularity in American culture.”
Dropping out of this year’s Top 10 List are majors in Internet and Ecommerce (ranked 12th) and majors in traditional core fields such as Marketing (ranked 13th).
Technology management remains a solid major, largely, says Phillips, because it appeals to professionals in a number of career niches, including engineering as well as information services. “A strong market exists for individuals who have bachelor’s in technology areas, such as computer programming, who can demonstrate broader managerial skills.” For this same reason Project Management remains a strong favorite among online learners.
The results of this study are based on surveys of online users of GetEducated.com’s free downloadable college guidebook, Best Distance Learning Graduate Schools, Business & Management 2004. The survey covers a three month period of February 15-May 15, 2004.
GetEducated.com’s Best Distance Learning Graduate Schools,

By Anonymous Bemidji State University introduced a new Web site positioned to help students "Go the Distance for Your Degree". The Web site (http://www.distance.bemidji.edu) offers online registration for classes, forms and instructions for application and financial aid, information about degree programs, requirements, and registration, and services such as online textbook purchasing, library services, and technical support.
The new Web site is also the doorway to all online courses. Current distance programs offered include bachelor's degrees in teacher education, applied psychology, management, and technology management and master's degrees in teacher education and educational technology.
"We've had a very successful distance learning program at Bemidji State University," says Robert Griggs, Dean of the Center for Extended Learning. The 'Go the Distance' Web site gives us to opportunity to serve our students more completely.
"A primary consideration for the Web site is as a single destination for students seeking distance learning information, services, and degree programs," says Griggs. "However, it also needed to be a pragmatic resource to our faculty. Here they can obtain training, dialog with their peers, access online technical support services, and find a host of resources devoted to distance learning."
Meeting market demand is a big issue for a state university. According to Minnesota Online1, "The number of students enrolled in the United States in post-secondary distance education courses increased six-fold from 1994 to 2002, and is expected to continue to grow at an even quicker pace."
Bemidji State University continues to roll out programs and work collaboratively with other institutions to meet this growing demand. According to Education Professor Patricia Rogers, the creator of the Masters in Education core online program, one of the big benefits for students is the flexibility of these programs.
"The Masters in Education core online can easily be put together with another program for students, so anywhere they live, they can get their masters degree in education," says Rogers. "We have worked successfully with a number of institutions — Minnesota State University Moorhead, Lake Superior College in Duluth, and others — to develop flexible undergraduate and graduate programs. We even have a program led by our Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Martin Tadlock, with a cohort in Casper, Wyoming."
For Brett Schmidt, a student in Bemidji State University's M.S. Education program, the distance program is ideal. "In three years my oldest will be in college and three years later the second one will be," says Schmidt. "I needed to find a way to complete my degree now, because three Schmidts in college at the same time would be way too many. This distance learning program allows me to work and still stay close to home so I can attend activities, make lunches, and work on my courses."
More information about Bemidji State University's distance educations programs is available by contacting the Center for Extended Learning, Bemidji State University, 1500 Birchmont Drive NE, Bemidji, MN 56601-2699 (218-755-2068, 800-475-2001 ext. 4, or cel@bemidjistate.edu).
